Lochearnhead
Lochearnhead is located in the area covered by Callander and Crieff. It is ideally situated on the west shore, at the Head of Loch Earn. Loch Earn is famous for a 7 mile stretch of fresh water and a centre for water-sports.
Lochearnhead is an ancient village with scenic surroundings and interesting historical buildings and structures, including a “crannog” on the Loch, indicating a settlement in the area for at least 2000 years. Just a short distance to the east of the village stands the impressive 17th century Edinample Castle, a “Z-plan” tower house. The grand arrival of the railway in 1870 brought a growth in the tourist industry, the main line closed in 1965, now the Railway station is a Scouts Station and very popular with visiting troupes.
