Newton Stewart is a “burgh town” in south Scotland in the west region of Dumfries and Galloway. The town lies around the River Cree and is very well know as the ‘Gateway to the Galloway Hills’. As would be expected of the name, the town offers the perfect base in which to explore the many mountains that surround it, with the highest mountain being Cairnsmore of Fleet which rises steeply to 711 metres.
