Harwich
Harwich is located on the Essex coast and is one of the Haven Ports situated on the North Sea coast. The town's name means "military settlement," from Old English “here-wic”.
Harwich is one of England's major ferry ports, busy with cars, people and freight leaving for the Continent. Harwich has several "claims to fame" including some claims that The Mayflower that took the Pilgrim Fathers to America was a Harwich ship, and Samuel Pepys was it's MP. Harwich lifeboat museum is very interesting to seafaring types as well as the two lighthouses (called High and Low) that now serve as museums. Other notable Georgian buildings include the Grade 1 listed Guildhall which is now home to the Harwich Town Council.
