Stone
Stone is an old market town and is the second town after Stafford in the Borough. The Trent and Mersey Canal runs through the town and used to provide the key to export of wares and beer in the 1700’s. In the 16th century Izaak Walton, author of ’The Complete Angler’, owned the thatched half-timbered cottage which is now the Angling Museum where you can see a variety of collections.
Stone had a large coaching trade which saw a lot of travellers come to the town and had many coaching inns to refresh both horses and travellers alike. The town today is easy to reach as it is within a short distance of the M6. It offers many interesting shops and restaurants and places to visit while enjoying hotel offers in Stone are the Potteries, Alton Towers and the Peak District.
